Grenco established itself as a company that produces very portable, stylish devices, and the G Pen Elite is no exception. It’s the second most expensive product in their lineup, and one of the best sellers in the high-end range of devices.

The Elite is made for dry herb vaping, which is Grenco’s specialty, and it introduces a lot of significant improvements to prevent disadvantages that plagued many of their former products. Did they manage to make it a good choice? Let’s find out.

Build Quality & Design

The Elite has an ergonomic design that perfectly suits the natural curvature of the human hand. The chassis has a rubber sleeve, making it very easy to hold – there’s even an indentation in the middle of the device where you can rest your index finger. Its overall shape closely resembles that of a little hair clipper, except that it’s not nearly as heavy.

On the front is a single panel button used to power the Elite on and off. Below it is a stylish logo, represented by a single G letter which illuminates when the device is powered on. The two temperature control buttons are placed on the right side and slightly curved. They are somewhat extended, making them very easy to locate but hard to accidentally press.

Located below these buttons is one of the most noteworthy features of the Elite – a very subtle LED display. It blends in very nicely with the shiny black paint around it, rendering it nearly invisible when it’s not powered on. There aren’t many details on it – only some basic information.

The top is covered by a slightly curved mouthpiece, which is, surprisingly, made out of plastic. Unfortunately, even with the silicone cover on, it doesn’t manage to dissipate heat well. Below the mouthpiece is a chamber that is going to house the material. Last but not least, the base of the device has a micro USB port for charging.

Ceramic Heating Chamber

Grenco claims that the G Pen Elite has the largest fully ceramic chamber on the market, with a capacity of 0.11 cubic inches. And indeed, its 360 heating design can store A LOT of material, removing the hassle involved in filling it up regularly. The chamber itself is coil-lessss without a sleeve at the bottom – only four cutouts for improved cooling and airflow.

Due to the size of this device, the cutout for herbs below the mouthpiece is relatively narrow. To make the filling process as easy as possible, grind the herbs finely, and use the packing tool which comes inside the box. After filling it, replace the mouthpiece, and it’s ready to go.

The chamber design makes maintenance very easy. Simply use the included cleaning brush after each session to prevent the chamber from clogging up. The silicone mouthpiece cover can be removed and washed with lukewarm water and soap to keep your device in top shape.

Usability & Performance

The controls are incredibly user-friendly, with only three buttons at your disposal. Turning on the Elite is done by pressing the middle power button five times in succession, after which the LED screen is going to light up.

Select your wanted temperature through the corresponding controls on the side of the device. Afterward, initiate the heat-up process by holding the power button down for one second. You’re ready to start vaping once it notifies you that it reached the set temperature.

Even though the temperature can go as high as 428F, it seems like the ideal range is somewhere between 360-380F. The 360-degree convection heating element evenly warms up the herbs without combusting them. Heat-up time of only 30 seconds is a very nice addition that usually can’t be found on the devices of this size. Still, it’s best if you give it a bit more time before taking the first hit.

Vapor production is lavish even with relatively shorter draws of around four seconds. Taking pulls from the G Pen Elite is smooth and satisfying since the four airflow holes reduce the draw resistance down to a minimum. Unfortunately, one of the most significant drawbacks of this device is the short vapor path.

This can cause the mouthpiece and its surrounding area to get hot to the point where you have to take a break from vaping it. If you decide to lower the temperature, the chances are that the vapor production is going to be heavily impacted, so it’s a lose-lose situation.

G Pen Elite Vaporizers Battery

Battery Life

The 2200mAh capacity is quite decent for the Elite’s size, but you’re likely going to burn through it quickly. Although it all depends on the set temperature, at around 350F, the battery won’t last longer than one hour, which is equal to roughly 5-6 sessions. To get the most out of it, you’ll want to grind the herbs as finely as possible and fill the chamber to the top.

Another major disadvantage is the non-removable design of the battery. If it fails, you can throw away the whole unit. The remaining battery life can be monitored on the LED display, and the average recharge time is 2-3 hours.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Very portable and lightweight
  • The chamber is massive and easily filled
  • Good button construction
  • Low heat-up time
  • Plenty of airflow and vapor
  • Nice and subtle LED display

Cons

  • Could have more metal parts instead of plastic
  • Material has to be extremely well-grinded for maximum performance
  • Short vapor path causes it to heat up
  • Integrated, non-replaceable batteries

Verdict

The G Pen Elite is undoubtedly not going to leave you stunned and filled with awe, but it’s an excellent little vaporizer to take along when you’re limited on space. Yes, the vapor path is short, and it can get quite hot, but that’s to be expected when you have a device only 6.25 inches tall. Still, if you can get over these disadvantages, the Elite is a well-performing product with quite a mammoth of a chamber.
