Priced much lower than Vaopresso and DNA mods, the Voopoo drag is an exciting box mod. Here, I explain why you may find value in this little mod, and whether you’d be better off spending a little more for something else.

Design and Aesthetics
The first thing that caught my eye about is also what I love most about its design. Voopoo has strayed away from the smooth, curvy edges we see in many mods these days. Instead, they stick us with a straight-edged box design, with beveled 90-degree corners that scream “throwback.”
Once it’s in your hand, the Voopoo seems to weight twice as much. Without batteries, it tips the scales to 212g, but with your dual 18650 cells installed, the weight is 2g short of 300g. It is a massive mod; there is no way to ignore that.
The material is said to be zinc alloy but based on how much it weighs; this may not be entirely true. It feels more like a stainless steel blend. You’ll forget about its weight almost immediately though—its aesthetics are stunning.
Carbon fiber inlays that come in various color schemes give it a sophisticated look. The Voopoo brand name is written on one side of the carbon fiber inlay, while the Drag logo is laser etched in bold letters on the entire battery door. It looks very conspicuous, but that’s not a bad thing.
Worth mentioning also is the magnetized battery door, which is very easy to remove, but snaps back securely and has no rattle whatsoever. You’ll also appreciate the very tactile and oversize fire button, which is positioned on the right side above the display.
Below it is two-mode buttons and a USB port for charging and firmware upgrades. Lastly, there is the stainless steel 510 connector, which features a gold-plated, spring-loaded pin.
Luckily, most of these features are similar to the Omni board’s features, so if used models like the Tarot Pro and Nano, you will get used to it pretty quickly.
Here, the Gene. Fun chip automatically detects the resistance level of the coil and then asks you whether it is a new coil. If you say yes, it will adjust the wattage to suit the coil. This is amazing because the chances of burning your new set up or coil are greatly minimized thanks to this feature.
Then, there are the custom curve modes. First, there is the CCW (Constant Curve of Wattage), and unlike in the Tarot Nano, the Gene. The fun chip allows you to set a custom vaping curve in 0.5s intervals for 9 seconds—not 5. CCT (Constant Curve of Temperature) is the same, but with temperature.
Finally, you get the basics—variable wattage (VW), smart wattage (SW), temperature control (TC) and TCR modes. Variable voltage mode is also available, but to get this, you will first need to upgrade the firmware.
The best thing about its software is that it has a PC interface. Setting up custom curves via the mod itself is easy, but doing so via PC is even more so. I love just how convenient it is.
Unfortunately, this only works on Window, so if you’re a Mac user, sorry, but you’re stuck with the mod’s interface.
Pros and Cons
- Lovely box design
- Exquisite aesthetics
- Compact size
- Excellent performance in all modes
- 1W increments in variable temperature and wattage modes
- The software has a PC interface.
- Classy logo
- Quite heavy
- Corners seem a bit too sharp.
- Vintage look (subjective)
At its price, the Voopoo Drag is seemingly underpriced. It is a decent mod by all standards and one that you won’t regret spending on.
